The Matador, Richard Shepard (2005)

Holy smoke, was that ever awful. At least if someone writes a trite, simplistic, boring, formulaic novel, s/he’s wasted nothing but the time and the paper. It’s sick and sad to have wasted millions of dollars and the time of such fine actors as Hope Davis and Greg Kinnear on this dumb goop. Think of what some smart young director could have done with these resources! Instead, this: a repetitive, half-assed, would-be buddy action flick where the buddy relationship is totally one-dimensional, and the action is nonexistent. Only positive thing to say is that I enjoyed the footage of Mexico City.
